Abstract
488,914. Preventing corrosion. OKONITE-CALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc. Dec. 30, 1937, No. 36130. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 123 (i)] A pipe 1 is provided with bitumen or paper felt insulation 2 over which a continuous metal tape 3 is wound with spaced turns and covered by insulation 4. The ends of the tape 3 are brought out so that its resistance may be measured when the pipe is buried in the earth and corrosion detected before such corrosion has reached the pipe itself. The tape 3, with or without the pipe line 1, may be provided with cathodic protection against corrosion by connection to a power source 5 as shown in Fig. 4.
