669,675. Protective arrangements. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., STEVENS, S. A., and WATSON, T. F. E. Sept. 12, 1950 [Nov. 3, 1949], No. 28182/49. Class 38 (iv). In a system for the electrolytic prevention of corrosion of a buried pipe 1, or the like, of the kind in which a D.C. potential is maintained between the pipe and a buried electrode 2, the potential is obtained from A.C. mains 11 over a transformer 9 and full-wave rectifier 4 and is regulated by a D.C.-controlled reactor 12 having its A.C. windings 13 in the primary circuit of the transformer. Current for the control windings 14 of the reactor is obtained, over a full-wave rectifier 17 and transformer 21, from the mains 11 through an adjustable autotransformer 22. The reactor 12 causes the current flow between the pipe and electrode to be largely independent of the soil resistance. A swamp resistance may be associated with the transformer 21 or the reactor winding 14 to reduce the effect of temperature variations on the current strength in the control circuit.
