[Class 52 (iii)] The parts 1 ... 5 of the table top hinged together at 6 ... 9 are adjusted by a single mechanism comprising a rod or rods 11 arranged longitudinally of the table and connected at 19, 20 to the top parts 2, 4 on opposite sides of the central supporting pillar 10 and adapted directly to operate them, a third top part 3 being adjusted indirectly and automatically by the adjustment of the parts 1, 2. The central part 3 is pivoted to the pillar 10 at 13 and the parts 3, 4 are connected by a rod 22 sliding in a block 21 and fixable by a set-screw. The rods 11 are pivoted to brackets 12 depending from the part 2 and to a pair of slide blocks 14, 15 slidable on a guide rod 16 pivoted at 18 to the central support 10, and on a guide rod 17 fixed to the underside of the part 4 respectively. The blocks 14, 15 can be locked to their guides by set-screws. On locking the block 15 and loosening the block 14, the table can be inclined as a whole by raising or lowering the rods 11, which are provided at their free ends with handles. If the block 14 is locked and the block 15 unlocked, raising of the rods 11 brings the parts into the position shown in Fig. 4. If both blocks 14 and 15 are locked and the block 21 loosened, the top hinges about both the points 7, 8. The slides 14, 15 may be constructed so that they cannot both be unlocked at the same time.
