Abstract

605,911. Tables; cabinets. SIMMONDS, A. B. Jan. 21, 1947, No. 1947/46. [Classes 52(i) and 52(iii)] A table combined with a cabinet comprises a table top 10 supported by a hollow pedestal 11, the table top being apertured in the centre to receive a shelved container 12 which is slidably mounted within the pedestal 11, when lowered the top 14 of the container lies flush with the table top which has recesses 15 to receive the extending edges of the 'top 14. Raising or lowering action of the container is effected by a pair of pivoted arms 17 having the upper ends thereof bearing against the underside of the container 12 and the lower ends attached to threaded nuts 22 running on left- and right-handed threads cut on a spindle 21 which is rotated by sprocket wheels 25 coupled by a chain 24 and operated from the outside of the pedestal 11 by a crank handle 23. The container 12 is provided with a top 14 which, in the lowered position, lies flush with the table top 10. As an alternative. the container 12 is counterbalanced and the pedestal 11 provided with compression springs at the base thereof such that raising and lowering may be effected by hand while catch means are provided. to secure the container in the raised or lowered positions.
