Abstract

488,785. Compound sheet materials. LEWENSTEIN, A. S., and PLYROCK, Ltd. Nov. 13, 1936, No. 31075. Addition to 401,391. [Class 140] Plywood and other suitable foundations are surfaced with synthetic resin veneers by applying a sheet or sheets of paper or fabric, the surface sheet of which is impregnated with at least its own weight of synthetic resin, e.g. a urea-formaldehyde resin, placing a polished metal sheet at the top of the assemblage, and pressing between the heated plates of an hydraulic press at a pressure not exceeding 500 1b. or thereabouts per square inch. Besides plywood, the foundation may be ordinary wooden articles, single layer boards, boards of compound material, pulp boards and metal sheets. The resin may be applied to the surfacing layer in liquid form, and partially cured before the layer is applied to the foundation. An adhesive such as film glue or casein cement may be employed between the impregnated sheet and the base.
