626,852. Compound sheet materials. STEVENS, A. H. (Tekwood, Inc.). March 11, 1946, No. 7496. [Class 140] A composite board, suitable for use as an underlay for linoleum, consists of a wood or plywood core 20 covered on both sides with a sheet of asphalt-impregnated paper felt 22 which is secured to the core by a waterinsoluble resin adhesive 30. The adhesive may be a urea-, phenol- or melamine-aldehyde resin, vinyl resin, furfural resin, a synthetic rubber cement, or a mixture of synthetic rubber with phenol-formaldehyde resin; it may be applied as a solution, or as a dry sheet. The component veneers of the plywood sheet and the surfacing paper felt sheets may be united in one pressing operation, the wood layers being united by the same water-insoluble resin adhesive. Paper felt having most of its fibres in one direction may be combined with a wood veneer so that this direction lies across the grain of the wood.
