Abstract

487,907. Seats. ALESBURY, D. L. April 8, 1937, No. 9956. [Class 52 (ii)] A chair or settee has a back-rest of resilient material, e.g. plywood, adapted to flex under load which at a point remote from the top of the back-rest bears upon a part of a frame without being secured thereto. For example, a seat and back-rest comprising a sheet of plywood 5 supporting springs 10 and upholstery 9 is secured to a frame at the front and to a cross-bar 7 under the seat and rests freely on a cross-bar 8 below the centre of the back. Alternatively, the seat and back may be resiliently supported, e.g. by springs, at a point at the rear of the seat, or may be resiliently supported so as to swing in fore - and - aft direction.
