Abstract

487,863. Welded pipe joints. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd. (Superheater Co.) Nov. 26, 1936, No. 32384. [Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] Pipe ends 2 which are joined together by a weld 8 have shoulders 3 against which are screwed sleeves 4 that relieve axial strain on the weld, the surfaces of contact between a, shoulder and a sleeve being shaped differently to allow for non-alignment of the pipes. The abutments are urged together by screwing them into an internally threaded sleeve 5. A ferrule 10 may be located in the bore between the pipe ends, or a thin annular spigot on one pipe may engage a recess in the other pipe. The cross-section of the weld 8 may be V- shaped, U - shaped, or semicircular. The shoulders 3 on the pipe ends may be formed either by upsetting, by screwed sleeves, or by welding thereon. An orifice 13 is provided for indicating leakage at the joint. Specification 279,713, [Class 99 (i)], is referred to.
