Abstract
487,554. Aerating liquids. BARNES ENGINEERING (PTY.), Ltd. Aug. 9, 1937, No. 21849. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1936. Addition to 451,277. [Class 14 (i)] The apparatus for carbonating water and other beverages described in the parent Specification is modified in that the mixing chamber H is disposed at the upper end of the reservoir A, being connected to the gas inlet E by a pipe F with nozzle G. Water is delivered to the mixing chamber by way of orifices N<1> and N<2>, in a conical member M, and a ring L, the orifices N<2> being inclined to impart a swirling motion to the water. In use, the reservoir A and gas chamber B are filled with water, air being vented by a valve S. The cock on the discharge pipe V and the gas supply valve on the pipe T are then opened, and water is discharged from chamber B and gas accumulates above the water in reservoir A. When the cock on pipe Y is closed, pressures equalize in reservoir A and chamber B, and the water and gas non- return valves P and U close. Whenever carbonated water is withdrawn from reservoir A, the valves P and U admit water and gas into the mixing chamber H in countercurrent. the carbonated water passing by apertures H<1> into the reservoir A.
