Abstract

Blowpipe. burners.-In order that an oxyacetylene or like burner may be used with a choked flame without bachfiring the oxygen is supplied under pressure through a reserve chamber D to a nozzle I thereby inducing a flow of acetylene to the mixing chamber M through a ball-valve S and a bye-pass controlled by a cock V, and compressed air is supplied to the mixing chamber through a cock C which is adjusted until the discharge pressure is equal to or above that in the mixing chamber. The acetylene supply is regulable by a valve B. When the flame is to be choked the oxygen cock X is closed. As the pressure in the chamber D falls the amount of acetylene fed through the valve S falls and the flow of air to the mixing chamber rises until when the oxygen flow from the nozzle I ceases the burner operates only on the acetylene fed through the bye-pass V and the air passing through the cock C.
