Abstract

510,584. Blowpipe burners. STEWART, J. G. Nov. 4, 1938, No. 32043. [Class 75 (i)] Oxygen admitted through a port 10 controlled by a hand-operated valve 12 from a supply passage 6 'to a cylindrical chamber 11 in a member 5 acts on one side of a piston 21 to regulate the admission of acetylene, hydrogen or other fuel gas from a supply passage 27 past a valve 32 to the other side of the piston. The oxygen is conveyed 'through a pipe 4 and the fuel gas, at substantially equal pressure, through a passage 37 in the member 5 and a pipe 3 to the heating gas orifices in a head-piece 36 fitted with a standard burner nozzle. Oxygen for cutting purposes is supplied to the head piece 36 from the passage 6 through a pipe 2 fitted with a hand-adjusted ball valve 45. The valve 32 is formed with a stem 30 which is slidable in a partition 28 in the gas passage 27 and carries an abutment 31 engaging an abutment 25 on the piston 21. The movement of the piston 21 is limited by a stop 28a. Adjustable orifices for varying the size of the flame may be provided in the pipes 3, 4. In a modification a diaphragm is substituted for the piston 21.
