Abstract

6606. British Oxygen Co., and Murray, K. S. March 16. Blowpipe burners.-The spring-operated valve 3, Fig. 1, of a metal-cutting blowpipe for controlling the supply of oxygen for cutting is controlled by a lever 11 having an adjustable screw 10 for acting on the valve 3, and is arranged together with the valves 16, 15, Fig. 2, for the combustible gas and the internal oxygen supply at or near the end opposite the nozzle, the parts of the blowpipe being readily detachable. A spring 4, Fig. 1, held in position by a screw cap 8, acts through a sleeve 5 on the spindle of the valve. The oxygen for cutting and for combustion is supplied through valved passages in the distributing box 1, passages in the junction-box 23, and tubes 24, 25, Fig. 2, to a central passage and an annular passage respectively in the nozzle, and the oxygen issuing through the nipple 33, Fig. 1, draws in combustible gas through the valve 16, Fig. 2, passages in the box 1 and the junction-piece 23, and a chamber 28 surrounding the tubes 24, 25.
