Abstract
2601. Selas Lighting Co., and Turner, E. Jan. 31. Atmospheric gas and vapour burners; perforated-tube burners.-The annular passage between the body of a gas or vapour burner nipple and the central controlling-pin is constant in shape and dimensions for some considerable distance to the rear of the orifice, so that the gas stream is rendered steady and moulded into a symmetrical shape prior to its issue. In the construction, Fig. 1, the nipple outlet A<4> is cylindrical, and the controlling-pin has a cylindrical part B, and two conical portions B<3>, B<1>, the former of which is adapted to seat on the part A<3> of the nipple body, while the latter enables a fine adjustment to be made. The pin preferably extends beyond the orifice A', and air or gas may be supplied through the axial bore B<4> to preserve the formation of the main gas column. Instead of the adjustment being effected by screwing the pin, it may be operated by a lever handle, or a pin and helical groove interconnexion between the pin and the nipple-body may be employed; alternatively, a cam-shaped flange on the pin may abut against a pin &c. inside the nipple-body. The axial bore B<4> may be connected to any gas or compressed-air supply. In a modification, the bore may be closed at the rear end and be put in communication with the gas-supply branch C by uncovering a hole in the wall of the pin opposite to that branch. The nipple may be applied to a furnace Bunsen burner provided with a hit-and-miss air-supply regulating-disk; and also to a burner, for use with Schreinering- apparatus &c. in which the combustion space is limited, and which comprises a tube provided with a split screw in a double-coned part thereof, for regulating the flow of the combustible mixture, and with flame apertures subdivided into small or narrow passages by devices which may be secured in position by a plate.
