Abstract

Mixing fluids in flow.-In a device for mixing liquids in determined volumetric proportions, of the kind consisting of vessels with outlets the cross-sections of which are controllable according to the proportions of the constituents desired in the mixture, the liquid-containing vessels are in the form of Mariotte jars. Fig. 1 shows a device for mixing two liquids contained in Mariotte-jarlike vessels 1, 2, which have air-inlet pipes 3, liquid-inlet pipes 7, and outlets 4, 4a leading to a mixing and supply pipe 20. As liquid enters, float valves 11 on the air pipes 3 close, and the air in the vessels 1, 2 escapes by valves 8. When liquid is drawn from the vessels and the pressure in them falls below atmospheric, air enters by the pipes 3 and valves 11, and is distributed by a perforated catch-ring 13. The inlet and outlet valves 15<a>, 15 are coupled by links 24, and may have a worm-wheel fine adjustment. The outlets 4<a>, 22 may have baffles to facilitate the mixing. Overflow pipes 9 are made as shown and have liquid seals 10. Air pipes 19 are fitted to the valves 15.
