Abstract

399,633. Mixing fluids in flow. UNITED WATER SOFTENERS, Ltd. and MARIGNY, H. G., Aldwych House, Aldwych, London. July 28, 1932, No. 21339. [Class 86.] In apparatus as described in Specification 356,796 for adding proportionate quantities of reagent to a stream of liquid in which a pressure difference in the stream is used to force the reagent, through the medium of a cushion of air, into the stream, the reagent is contained in an open-topped vessel. The apparatus is used for water softening. The main stream passes through a pipe 3 in which is a constriction 4 by means of which the pressure difference is created. The reagent is contained in the vessel 5 mounted within a closed container 1, and is discharged therefrom, through the pipe 8, into the main stream, by the entrance of liquid through the pipe 2 into the container 1 compressing the air in the upper part of the container. The flow of liquid through the pipe 2 is shut off when the container 1 is nearly full by means of a ball valve 11. The reagent is mixed in a vessel 15 to which water is led by a pipe 14, the mixture being drawn into the vessel 5 by draining the container through a cock 17 after opening the valve 19.
