Abstract

392,750. Aerating liquids. SODASTREAM, Ltd. and HUCKS, W., 22, Oval Road, Camden Town, London. June 16, 1932, No. 17063. [Class 14 (i).] Water is admitted from an inverted bottle 2 by way of a pipe 5, passage-way 6, and inlet valve 7 to an aerating chamber 3, communicating through a tubular piece 12 with a discharge vessel 4. The tubular piece 12 projects into the aerating chamber 3 and forms an air-lock space 14 into which a needle-jet 16 for the supply of carbonating gas projects. A combined discharge and safety valve 13 controlling the outlet port of the aerating chamber -3 is operated by a hand-lever 19. The valve 13 is connected by a shackle 27 to a pin 20 passed transversely through a tubular piece 21 having secured thereto a guiding element 22 slidable in the vessel 4, and through the ends of a pair of eccentric straps 23 mounted on an eccentric 24 rotatably mounted on a shaft 25 fixed in a slotted extension 26 of the vessel 4. Outwardly bent ends of the shackle 27 fit into holes in a collar on the valve 13, and the looped end of the shackle is normally held in engagement with the pin 20 by a spring 28. When the valve 13 is closed, a predetermined pressure is exerted by the spring 28 to maintain it on its seating, but should the pressure in the chamber 3 exceed this amount, the valve is raised until the excess pressure is relieved. The valve 13 is coupled with the valve 7 by means of a disc 30 slidable in a socket 31 in such a manner that the valve 13 is opened before the valve 7 when the lever 19 is raised, thus first relieving the pressure in the chamber 3 which would otherwise force the aerated liquid back into the vessel 2. The supply of the aerated liquid through a discharge spout 33 to a glass or other receptacle is thus effected by the inflow under gravity of a succeeding supply of non-aerated liquid from the vessel 2. A device 34 may be provided on the hand-lever 19 for counting the number of times the apparatus is operated. The pipe 5 provided with an extension 5a acting as a drain, and normally closed by a cap 5b.
