Abstract

483,958. Aerating liquids ; pressureregulating valves. COHEN, W. Aug. 18, 1937, No. 22684. [Class 14 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] An apparatus for whipping and dispensing cream and the like comprises a gas reservoir, a cream container, and a gas-control valve which is adapted to close automatically when a certain pressure has been established in the container. The gas reservoir 5 containing nitrous oxide, is connected, by a valve 9 and a pipe 34 with a check valve 42, to the cream container 40 which includes a siphon tube 45, spout 48, and manual valve 50. The valve 9 comprises a manual valve 8, a passage 13 never wholly closed by a valve 15, and a passage 27 connected to the pipe 34, to a safety valve 30, and to the space below a piston 22 in a chamber 21. Normally, a spring 20 presses the piston downwardly, so that its stem 18 holds the valve 15 downwardly against the pressure of a spring 16. When the valve 8 is opened, gas passes, by the passages 13 and 27, to the container 40 to whip the cream and establish a discharge pressure. As the pressure rises, the piston 22 is raised, allowing the valve 15 to rise until it engages a seat 62 and closes the passage 27. At the same time, the projection of the piston stem 18 above the valve casing indicates to an operator that the desired pressure has been attained.
