[Class 125 (ii)] A filling nozzle for use in a counter-pressure &c. bottling machine comprises a liquid pipe 10, an air pipe 11 firmly connected thereto, a liquid supply pipe 6 and an air supply pipe 7. The liquid to be bottled adjusts itself to a level 8 which corresponds to the level in the supply tank. A centring member 9 is enclosed tightly between the parts 2, 3 of the nozzle, and supports the pipes 10, 11. A sliding member 16 in the part 2 is packed by a gasket 17. A collar 18 supports some rings 19 which can be removed or replaced to suit bottles of various heights. The ring 20 hermetically seals the bottle during the filling operation. A small ventilating valve 21 communicates with the open air. This valve is controlled by a guide rail 23 and is closed by a rising bottle. A valve and seating 24, 25 has channels 26 leading from the liquid and air space 27 to the liquid pipe 10. Springs 29 are fitted in the member 24, which co-operate with springs 30 in the part 9. The air pipe 11 extends up through the valve seat 24 and terminates in a chamber 32 under a valve-seat 35 which has a channel 36 forming an extension of the pipe 11. The channel 36 can be maintained closed by a valve 37 which is held in position by a spring 28. When the filling tube is moved upwards the valve 37 strikes a projection 39 and the valve-seat 35 moves further into a recess 40. A channel 41 connects the spaces 40, 27, and a narrow channel 42 connects the space 27 to the bottom of the valve 25. When the pipes 6, 7 are connected to the air and liquid spaces in the supply tank the liquid in the filling-head rises to the level 8 and fills the space 43 through the channel 42. The valve parts will then be disposed as shown in Fig. 1. If a bottle is now pressed upwards against the gasket 20 the part 16 will be lifted with the valve-seats 24 and 35. The valves 25, 37 will follow along at the start and the valve 21 will be closed. The connection between the space 40 and the channels 36 will now be opened and air will flow into the bottle from the air space in the tank. When the pressures are equalised the liquid from the space 27 will be able to flow into the bottle. The air in the bottle escapes through the pipe 11 until the liquid reaches the level 14 when an air-lock is formed. The bottle is now lowered and removed. Two modifications are shown and described.
