Abstract
461,164. Bottling. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE MACHINES MODERNES AUTOMATIQUES. March 26, 1936, No. 9063. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1935. [Class 125 (ii)] In apparatus for filling bottles with effervescent or aerated liquids in which the liquid level in the liquid distributing vessel 1 is maintained substantially constant by the introduction of air or gas under pressure, the pressure in the vessel is regulated by a valve 15 disposed in a conduit 151 communicating with the compressed air or gas supply tube 8, the valve 15 being controlled by a piston 12 which is exposed to the pressure of the air or gas in the vessel 1 and is so weighted that it will open at a pressure slightly exceeding the working pressure of the vessel 1, when that pressure drops below normal and so limit the pressure drop in the distributing vessel and prevent the formation of foam and loss of gas by the liquid being bottled. As shown, the valve 15, with its piston 12 and valves 13, 16 with their pistons 10, 11 respectively, are housed in a casing 4 on the top of the vessel 1, the pistons being grooved to permit equalization of the pressures on the tops and bottoms thereof. The liquid is supplied to the vessel 1 by a tube 2 opening near the bottom of the vessel and a float 3, controlling the liquid level in the vessel, is formed with a sleeve 3<1> adapted to coact with a beam 21 pivoted on the tube 2 with its arms disposed below the stems of the valves 13, 16. The gas or air supply pipe 8 opens below the piston 16 and the valve 13 communicates with an exhaust valve 14, and under normal working conditions the valve 15 remains closed but opens to admit compressed air or gas when the pressure falls slightly in the vessel if the pressure drop is considerable, the float 3 will rise and cause the beam to bear against the stem of the valve 13, and then to pivot about its axis and bear against the stem of the valve 16 which, being held on its seat by the pressure of the air or gas supply, stops the pivoting of the beam and causes the valve 13 to close and prevent escape of air from the vessel 1 until the normal liquid level is restored in the vessel. In the event of a bottle bursting or a leak occurring, the beam 21 is raised quickly by the float and first closes the valve 13 and then, bearing against the stem thereof, opens the valve 16 which admits the compressed air or gas into the vessel and restores the normal working pressure.
