Abstract
3679. Meadowcroft, J., and Meadowcroft & Son, W. Feb. 14. Bottling.-Relates to counter - pressure machines in which the valves are raised by the bottle into position to engage their operating- cams, in a similar manner to that described in Specification 12,598/07, and consists in the use of a snift valve D, Fig. 4, in addition to the liquid and gas supply-valves B, C, Fig. 3, which snift valve is operated to empty the bottle of air after a preliminary charging with pressure gas, previously to charging the bottle again with pressure gas as a preliminary to filling with liquid. By this means, air is prevented from getting into the liquid supply reservoir, and also from mixing with the liquid in the bottle. To provide a sufficient supply of pressure gas to flood the bottles and sweep out the contained air, the liquid supply reservoir or intermediate pressure chamber between the main tank and the bottle, shown in Fig. 5, is provided. This chamber is provided with gas inlet passages g<5>, g<6> controlled by a ball float valve g' and hand - operated valve g<8>, respectively, and also with a float - controlled gas-escape valve g<13> and a hand-operated gasescape valve g<15>. In operation, the valve g<10> is opened to allow the reservoir G to fill with gas from the main tank. When the pressures are equal and gas ceases to pass, the valve g<10> is closed. The valve g<15> is then slightly opened to allow the reservoir to fill with liquid from the main tank through the pipe k<2>. Liquid rises until the valve g<13> is closed by the float g<12>. If, during the bottling, the reservoir tends to flood owing to loss of gas through faulty or bursting bottles, the valve g' is opened by the float g', and admits more pressure gas .from the main tank to restore equilibrium.
