Bottling.-In a counterpressure bottling- machine; means are provided for equalizing the pressures within the bottle, the soda - water container, and the syrupmeasuring vessel before commencing the filling operation, the syrup and water then passing through a mixing-valve and entering the bottle together. In operation, the bottle to be filled is pressed up to the filling- nozzle 19, Fig. 1, on the casing 20 of the mixing- valve, by a bow 14 and an arrangement of levers which simultaneously closes a guard 22 and lowers a rod 16, a hook 17 on which engages an eye 18 of a three-armed lever, thus operating limbs 23, 24 of the lever to open the pressure - equalizing and mixing valves respectively. Owing to the arrangement of the lever arms and co - operating parts the pressure-equalizing valve is first opened by the arm 23engaging an abutment 27, Figs. 1 and 6, on the valve-spindle, and admits pressure from the aerated-water container 2 to the bottle, and also, via the filling-head and a pipe 34, Figs. 1 and 3, to the syrup-measuring vessel 6. The pressure also passes up a pipe 39 and operates a spring-controlled valve 38, the syrup then passing to the mixing- valve and joining the soda-water. When the bottle is full, the hook 17 is released from the eye 18 of the lever 16 by a handle 41 and the mixing and pressure-equalizing valves are closed by their springs the pressure in the bottle then passing through the hollow spindle 44, Fig. 6, of the equalizing - valve, depressing the abutment 27, and escaping by a nozzle 45. The pressure being reduced, the bow 14 is lowered and the bottle removed. The valve 38 closes by its spring, and the syrup-measuring chamber refills from the container 3, Fig. 1.
