Bottling. - In apparatus for carbonating and bottling liquids in which the liquid is carbonated at high pressure and then passes through a reducing- valve to be supplied at lower pressure to bot. tles into which counterpressure air has been introduced, the reduction of pressure in the liquid on passing through the reducing- valve is controlled by the pressure of the counterpressure air, so that the difference of pressure between the liquid being bottled and the counterpressure air is kept constant. The carbonated liquid enters by a pipe B, passes through a casing C containing the pressure-reducing valve and enters the filling-chamber 3, the level in which is kept constant by a float-actuated valve 24. The counter-pressure air enters a chamber 65 connected by a pipe 64 with the reducing-valve, and passes by a pipe 6 to a chamber 14 with an open bottom immersed in liquid in a closed chamber 12. Pipes 18 connect the chamber 14 with the filling-head 17, and pipes 21 connect the chamber 12 with the filling-chamber 3. By adjusting the amount of liquid in the chamber 12, the difference of pressure between the counterpressure air in the filling-heads 17 and the chambers 3 can be regulated. The construction of the reducing-valve is shown in Fig. 2. The inlet pipe enters a chamber 29 with valve seats 32, 33 arranged as shown, against which seat valves 34, 35 on a spindle 36 guided above and below as shown and attached to a diaphragm 43, above which enters the pipe 64 connected to the supply of counter-pressure air. The upper end of the spindle 36 is attached to a yoke 56 carrying a roller 59 against which bears the end of a lever 61 carrying an adjustable weight 64<1>.
