Abstract

487,477. Lifting paper reels &c. NUNN, C. Oct. 18, 1937, No. 28290. [Class 78 (iv)] To lift paper reels or like cylindrical articles without supporting them from beneath, a yoke-bar 1 is fitted with two depending A-shaped members 2, 3 carrying trunnions 4, 5 adapted to enter holes in the core of the reel. The appliance is lowered over the reel, and the trunnion 4, which is fixed in relation to the yoke-bar, pushed into engagement with the core. The arm 3 is then slid along the yokebar until the trunnion 5 engages the other end of the core. To move the member 3, a handle 17, connectable at will with a shaft 16 by pawl-and-ratchet gear, imparts rotation to a toothed segment 9 driving a long pinion 10 which rotates a shaft 11 provided with right- and-left hand screwed portions, one of which engages a nut on the stud-carrying member while the other engages a nut on a bracket fixed to the yoke. This gives a doubled traversing effect to the stud 5. Pairs of spring- mounted levers 21 centre the appliance on the reel as it is lowered thereover.
