Abstract

411,212. Propelling and steering boats. PLINT, A. F., and TURNER, Ltd., S., 43, Market Place, Henley-on-Thames. Jan. 18, 1933, No. 1709. [Class 114.] Relates to a steering and propelling unit carried by a pedestal and consists in disposing the steering shaft centrally within the propelling shaft. A pedestal unit 1 is adapted to carry a vertical driving shaft 4 which is driven from bevel gearing 11 and a horizontal shaft 10 by any suitable power unit. This shaft is supported in the pedestal 1 by a flange bearing 31, and bevels 13 at the bottom drive the propeller shaft 12 and propeller 14. The steering shaft 5 is actuated by bevel wheels 33 and 34 and passes centrally down the hollow driving shaft and at its lower end is forked to straddle the propeller shaft and is connected to a block 17 in the propeller boss by screws 19. Upon turning the shaft 5 the whole propeller boss 3 is thereby rotated complete with its supporting sleeve 2 in the pedestal and steering is effected.
