Abstract

585,545. Propelling, ships. BRITISH MOTOR BOAT MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., BROWN, H. P., and ARMSTRONG, A. G. Feb. 27, 1945, No. 4930. [Class 114] Slip-propulsion apparatus comprises a vertical transmission shaft J driving a propeller L about a horizontal axis and telescopic means, constituting a well-member A, B and C extending through' the bottom D of the vessel, movement of which raises or lowers the shaft J without disconnecting it from the source of power K, the propeller being so drawn within the contour of the hull. On rotation of the intermediate tubular part B relatively to the parts A and C the whole wellmember will be extended or collapsed to raise or lower the propeller. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement whereby the propeller can be turned about the axis of the vertical transmission shaft for steering purposes.
