Abstract

469,329. Detachable installations for boats. MAXWELL, Ltd., J. & T., and CROXSON. E. C. S. Jan. 23, 1936, Nos. 2174/36 and 1930/37. [Class 114] A detachable installation for boats is provided with two oppositely rotating propellers driven by two shafts passing down a depending casing which can be rotated for steering., Two propellers 4, 5 of opposite pitch are driven by bevels 8, u, and 9, x from concentric shafts s, v, the upper ends of which are connected by bevels t, w with a bevel 1 on a shaft y coupled to an engine. The shafts are contained in a casing h having a pinion k thereon which meshes with a pinion l, to the shaft of which a steering arm o is secured. The pinion k takes the weight through a ball race m mounted in a casting b secured by a flange e to the boat planking c. The bottom of the casting and part of the casing have curved engaging surface q. The central shaft v has a passage 25 through which a lubricant is supplied to propeller shafts and gearing. The outer ends of the shaft bearings 6, 7 bear against rings 21 with chamfered faces which grip rubber tubes 22 passing into grooves 23 in the propeller bosses.
