Abstract

164,843. Denton, W. L. March 15, 1920. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Driving-arrangements for screw propellers. - Manually operated portable apparatus for propelling boats comprises inboard and outboard portions enclosed in casings and connected by shafting and bevel-gearing, the inboard portion being secured to the seats by clamps and having operating-handles for the gear, and the outboard portion being secured to rudder pintles and having a propeller and rudder. Gear-boxes 22, Fig. 1, are secured to the seats 36 by clamps 37 and contain gears 15, 16 operated by handles 14 for driving a shaft 10. Bevel-wheels 12, 13 connect the shafts with a vertical shaft 11 which drives by bevels 19, 20 a propeller shaft 17 and propeller 18. The casing carrying the outboard section is hung in the rudder pintles 34, 35 and has a rudder 25. An extension of the vertical shaft 11 carries a fly-wheel 38. Where only one operating gear-box is provided, the forward bevel may be driven by a crank handle so that three persons may be used for actuating the apparatus.
