Abstract
521,870. Ironing machines. HAMMER, A., Nov. 29, 1938, No. 34710. [Class 138 (ii)] The motor M and gear-box G are either mounted, as in Fig. 5, directly on the iron P, which is in the form of a rotary disc, or are secured thereto by a tube 23, Fig. 1, surrounding the shaft driving the disc, so as to form an integral unit.. In the form shown'in Fig. 5 the unit is carried by jointed arms 49, 50 and in the other form it is suspended from wheels 15 which traverse a transverse rod 14 secured to a longitudinally movable carriage 13. The motor may be used for rotating the iron and also for raising the same out of contact with the work. For the latter purpose a cam may be clutched, by manipulation of a lever 43, with one of the wheels of the reduction gear, the cam pushing plunger 22 to the left whereby a bellcrank lever 18 is rotated clockwise. The lever is pivoted to the gear casing and its arm is pivoted to the suspension link 16. In both forms the motor, gear-box, and iron are in vertical alignment.
