[Class 59] Each stamp rod g of a coal-crushing machine is formed as a rack and gears with a pinion c, loose on a driving-shaft a and coupled thereto intermittently by a magnetic or other clutch b, so that the stamp is lifted by the pinion but falls freely. An arrangement for holding a stamp in its raised position is shown in Fig. 4. Gripping members h on either side of the rod g are pivoted on levers i connected by an arm k to a fixed bracket l. The members h allow the rod to rise freely but prevent it falling except when an eccentric m is brought into engagement with one of the members h by a hand wheel n.
