Abstract

487,169. Lubricating ; centrifugal pumps. THOMSON & TAYLOR (BROOKLANDS), Ltd., and SAMPIETRO, A. C. Dec. 19, 1936, No. 34934. [Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] On the high speed shaft 3 of the supercharger blower of an internal-combustion engine is mounted the rotor 5 of a lubricant pump. The shaft 3 is driven from a shaft 1 by worm and worm-wheel gearing. Lubricant is drawn by the pump 5 through a pipe 10 and is discharged through a pipe 11 and nozzles 12, 13, to the bearings 7, 8, and speed increasing gearing 2. Drainage oil returns to the pump suction through a pipe 16. The presence of the oil pump 5 tends to lessen torsional vibration of the shaft 3. If the blower casing is fixed rigidly to the engine and the latter is supported on elastic mountings, the gyroscopic action of the blower rotor will check engine vibrations.
