Abstract

700,222. Gas turbine plant; centrifugal blowers. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERG AKT.-GES. Sept. 27, 1951 [Nov. 11, 1950], No. 22605/51. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3) [Also in Group XXXIV] An exhaust gas turbine driven supercharger for an internal combustion reciprocating engine has an air turbine arranged on the suction side of the compressor for driving a lubricating oil pump for the supercharger unit. The blower 2 is driven through the shaft 3 mounted in bearings 4, 5 by the turbine 1. In the radial suction bend 6 of the blower, turbine blades 7 are arranged. The air turbine drives an oil pump 11 which sucks lubricating oil from the sump 12 and forces it to the bearings 4, 5 from which it is returned to the sump. The bearings of the air turbine may also be supplied by the pump 11. Guide vanes 6a and 10 may be arranged before and after the turbine. The blades of the turbine may be formed or arranged so that the speed of the pump 11 is adapted to the speed of the supercharger. In a modification, the air turbine is arranged in an axial supply conduit to the blower.
