Abstract

632,615. Pumps. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN. Dec. 24, 1947, Nos. 34231 and 34232. Convention dates, Nov. 2, 1946, and Nov. 3, 1947. [Class 7 (ii)] The output of an exhaust-driven turbo-charging blower 1, 2 is augmented at starting and low speeds by a hydraulic pump 6 geared thereto and operating as a motor supplied with pressure liquid by a second pump 8 driven by an electric motor 9 or the engine itself. A non-return valve 13, or a similar valve in a by-pass passage round the motor 6 relieves back pressure when the exhaust pressure is sufficient to operate the turbo blower efficiently. As shown lubricant, used as the pressure liquid, is supplied by the pump 6 to the bearings of the turbo-blower and a pressure-relief valve 14 and non-return valves 13, 15 are placed in piping connected to the lubricant supply tank 11. The pump 8, when driven by the engine, may be the lubricant pump, the pressure in the lubricating system and that delivered to the motor being limited by pressure-relief valves.
