486,253. Dental hand-pieces. DOUILLOT, G. May 4, 1937, No. 12641. Convention date, May 4, 1936. [Class 81 (ii)] A drill-carrying dental instrument of the type wherein the end forming the tool-carrying head is hinged so as to be movable in a plane including the axis of the body of the instrument is characterized in that the transmission of movement to the tool is effected by a driving bevel pinion f mounted on a shaft in the body of the instrument and gearing with two intermediate pinions d mounted on shafts at right-angles to the first, and by a fourth bevel pinion e secured to the shaft m carrying the chuck h for the drill i, the pinion e gearing with the two intermediate pinions. The latter are mounted on shafts which are capable of rotation in bosses a<1> formed on the sleeve a. In order that the inclination of the tool-carrying head relative to the body of the instrument may be adjusted, the driving pinion f and its shaft are adapted for axial movement sufficient to disengage the former, the movement being effected by a sliding bolt j. This is also formed with extensions adapted to engage notches k in the head carrying the chuck h. The head is formed of two half shells b mounted on the bosses a<1> and held together by screw cap c.
