484,236. Automatic guns. WIMMERSPERG, H. Jan. 20, 1937, No. 1674. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1936. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 23, 1937.] [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to cartridge-feed mechanism for machine guns of the kind in which a single-lever mechanism operates to feed the cartridge belt forward and to push the cartridges from the belt into loading position. According to the invention, the lever mechanism 33 is so pivoted at 34a on the housing that it moves in one plane to feed the belt and in a plane transverse to the first to push the cartridges from the belt. The invention is shown applied to feeding the movable barrel 31 of a double-barrel machine gun as described in Specification 484,235. The pivot pin 34a engages a two-part cylindrical bearing on the feed lever 33 which is controlled by a spring 35. The end 33s of the lever engages a variable-depth groove s, h, r in the barrel extension 32 and the end 33z of the lever penetrates an opening 37a in the cartridge belt 37 to feed the belt when the lever moves in one plane through the angle # and to push the cartridges from the belt when the lever moves in the other plane through an angle alpha. The lever is supported in guides 34f by projections 33qu the ends of which are shaped to suit the lever movements.
