Abstract

483,829. Heating by electromagnetic induction. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and BACCI, A. Oct. 29, 1936, No. 29417. [Class 39 (iii)] An electrical coil, particularly for use in induction heating, is constructed by winding an insulated solid or laminated conducting strip 1 in a series of spiral convolutions which are embraced by a number of rigid U-shaped members 2, each provided with a bridge-piece 3 adapted to be secured to the arms of the members. The latter are insulated from the strip by insulation 5, 7 and 8. If several coiled strips are utilized side by side, insulating rings 9 are placed therebetween. Two adjacent coils may be wound from a single length of strip, the end of the innermost convolution of one coil unit being bent laterally out of the plane of that unit into that of the neighbouring unit. The end of the outermost convolution of a coil is bent up to provide a lug 11 to form an electrical connection. The coil may be used for induction heating in connection with apparatus for the extrusion of metal as described in Specifications 429,918, 430 006, and 483,830, [all in Group XXII].
