Abstract

293,118. Reyrolle & Co., Ltd., A., and Atkins, H. C. March 31, 1927. Protective arrangements.-A surge absorber comprises a primary winding in series with the line to be protected and a secondary winding in sections each tuned to a different frequency and inductively related to the primary winding. Each section may have a condenser in shunt with it. A primary winding A is wound on a tube D of insulating material and covered by a second insulating tube G upon which is wound a number of spirals B of strip resistance material which are connected in series. The outer end of each spiral is connected to a conducting tube C. The tubes C are arranged concentrically to form a series of condensers. The inner end of the first spiral is connected to the outer tube C<2> and the outer end of the last spiral to a tube C<1> outside the tube C<2> so that the connections of the whole device are as shown in Fig. 1. The whole device is enclosed in a metal casing and filled with oil.
