Abstract

381,017. Condensers. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON, 33, Kungsgatan, Stockholm. Dec. 10, 1931, No. 34260. Convention date, Jan. 31. [Class 38 (ii).] In a rolled condenser, in which one at least of the conducting layers is interrupted to divide the layers into overlapping sections to obtain a series of part-capacities, the end surfaces of the roll are substantially funnel-shaped or conical with their apexes in opposite directions to provide an extended creepage path between the innermost and outermost sections which alone are connected to the terminals. Two convex ends, Fig. 2, or two concave ends, Fig. 7, are formed as follows. Each insulating layer is made up of a succession of strips of insulation 1 .. the width of which increases or decreases successively according to whether concave or convex ends are desired, the end of each strip overlapping the one previously wound. Each conducting layer consists of a succession of similarly graded strips 7 .. 12, preferably all being of substantially the same area, arranged in pairs in winding so that e.g. strips 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 overlap and are in contact. The gaps between the pairs in one conducting layer are made to lie opposite the overlaps in the other laver. Terminal connections may be led off from opposite sides as at 19, 20, Fig. 2. Fig. 7 shows a condenser 25 mounted on an insulating tube 28 in a casing 29. Terminal connections 26, 27 are led respectively to a metal cap 30 and a tubular lead in 35 packed in an insulator 37. The orifice at the end of the lead in is closed by a cap 51 which also serves as external terminal The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction in which, in winding the condenser, the conducting and insulating strips are moved along the axis of the spool to form one concave and one convex end to the roll. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
