Abstract

434,995. Transformers; condensers. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 9, 1934, No. 23053. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] A current transformer has its primary winding 6 and secondary winding 7 arranged in an insulating casing 1, a series arrangement of condensers 12 connected only between high and low potential terminals of the transformer being so disposed in and along the wall of the casing 1 that the potential drop in the condenser arrangement is in the same sense as the potential drop in the casing 1. The casing 1 has a conducting cap 3 to which one of the high tension terminals 4, 5, is connected and is provided with an oiltight base 2 in which low tension terminals 9, 10, 11 are arranged. The annular condenser elements 12 are secured on insulating cylinders 13, 14, by conducting rings 19, 17, 20, 18, and have external diameters slightly smaller than the corresponding internal diameters of the adjacent portions of the casing 1. The conducting ring 19 which is in contact with one end of the condenser chain is connected to a high potential terminal 4 or 5, while the conducting ring 18 which is in contact with the other end of the condenser chain is connected to one of the low potential terminals 9, 10, 11. This latter connection may be made, as shown, to the earthed terminal 9 to which one side of the secondary winding 7 is also connected, the other side of 7 being connected to terminal 10 and the high potential side of the lowest condenser element being connected to terminal 11 so that voltage measurements may be made across terminals 9, 11. The insulating tubes 13, 14 may be perforated to permit oil circulation or may be replaced by a number of bars. As shown in Fig. 1a each ring-shaped condenser element comprises two coating bands separated by insulating bands and wound together in spiral form. One coating band projects from the upper side of the insulating bands and is bent radially inwards at 15, while the other band projects from the lower side of the insulating bands and is bent radially inwards at 16. Series connection between adjacent condenser elements is then made by contact between the lower edge 16 of the upper element and the upper edge 15 of the lower element.
