Abstract

483,589. Conduits. WALDRAM, H. D. T. Nov. 4, 1936, No. 30057. [Class 36] A conduit for cables 18, Fig. 2, comprises a sheet metal trough 10 and a readily removable cover 12 formed with side flanges which frictionally engage the side walls of the trough, the side walls and the side flanges being provided respectively with longitudinal grooves 11 and internal projections 13 which interengage and lock the cover in position when the latter is pressed on the trough. The trough is reinforced and the cables held in position by longitudinally spaced U-shaped metal bridges 17, the sides 15 of which are formed with grooves 16 for engagement with the projections formed by the grooves 11. In a modified construction the grooves 11, 16 and projections 13 extend outwardly. The bridge pieces may be in the form of blocks 23 having projections 24 or grooves for engaging the side walls of the trough, as shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 shows a method of making a T-joint between two conduits. The side wall 19 and the side flange 20 of the body 10 and cover 12 of the main conduit are cut away to accommodate the end portion of the body 27 of the branch conduit. Cuts are then formed along the junction of the side walls 19 and the bottom 28 of the end portion of the branch conduit and the cut portions 29 of the side-walls are bent outwardly so that they lie along the side walls of the main conduit. A screw 31 secures the bottoms of the conduits together.
