Abstract

Junction boxes.-The tube enclosing a cable as described in the parent Specification is made of sheet metal and the edges are turned back at the seam, either continuously or at intervals, so as to leave openings through which insulating material and supports for the conductors &c. can be introduced. Successive portions of cable may be connected by butt joints with welded sleeves, or welded lap joints, or by junction boxes, consisting of two portions g, g<1>, Fig. 12, secured together by bolts and engaging with the sections of cable by grooves and flanges i. Between the flange i. and the end of the section is a packing ring k. Between the two halves of the box are packing strips k<1>, Fig. 14, engaging with a portion of the ring k which is cut away in a wedge form as shown. Fig. 15 shows a junction box for use at a bend formed with grooves g<11> to hold the discs c which support the conductor d.
