Abstract
483,581. Disc mills. EIRICH, J., and EIRICH, G. Oct. 22, 1936, No. 28779. [Class 59] In a process for treating fibrous materials in a disc mill, the material is passed through a narrow zone of radial or nearly radial cleaving ribs located near the circumference of the discs, the material being rapidly removed by centrifugal force or by gaseous or fluid pressure. In Fig. 1, the disc b is rotated by shaft a and the coacting radial ribs c are flared to provide a short cleaving zone. Preliminary cutters t are mounted on the rotating disc and liquid is supplied by a tube m. In Fig. 2 the ribs k<1> are of unequal radial thickness, a plate h projecting over the exposed ribs to effect a preliminary disintegration. A water supply g which may have bent nozzles projects water onto the ribs. The water supply may be projected through the ribs and normal to the path of the material.
