Abstract

483,529. Hot - water tanks; non- conducting coverings for heat. MOULE, A. E., and KENWOOD, C. S. April 16, 1937, No. 10880. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (ii)] A domestic hot-water storage tank 2 connected to a boiler supports a casing 1 which completely surrounds the tank and has at the bottom a detachable tube 24 closed at the bottom and containing water, which when heated forms enough steam to drive air from the casing through a tap 21, which is then closed to form a partial vacuum on cooling. The tank and casing may be rectangular and be spaced apart by sleeves 5 .. 8 welded thereto and surrounding the usual pipes 9, 15, 17, 19 connected to the tank ; or the tank may be cylindrical, the screw-threaded connecting pipes supporting the casing in conjunction with bosses on the tank, washers 11 and external nuts 13 sealing the connections. The casing has a detachable top or front plate 4. The cavity may previously be tested for air-tightness by placing a candle in the tube 24.
