Abstract

468,566. Heating water by electricity. JOHNSON & PHILLIPS, Ltd., and SMITH, F. Jan. 7, 1936, No. 553. [Class 39 (iii)] In a storage water heater in which the heating elements 12, which may be electric, are situated in a heating chamber 5 located in a hot water container 8, the cold water inlet to the chamber 5 is capable of being cut off and a portion of the heating chamber together with the heating elements 12 and other fittings can be removed while the chamber 5 remains sealed into the tank 8 as before and therefore the latter will still contain hot water for use while the removed portions from the heating chamber are being defurred. The heating chamber 5 is flared out at its lower end and this flange is held in a water-tight manner between a rim 9 on the bottom of the tank and a ring 7. The removable part of the heating chamber, which carries the heating elements and other fittings, is secured to the ring 7. The cold water supply pipe 6 may be thermally insulated from the container 8 and is connected to a port 21 in ring 7. The water after being heated in chamber 5 overflows through the open top into container 8. The chamber 5 may be horizontal, in which case it is closed at both ends and is provided with a port along the top.
