Abstract
477,288. Heating water. MAUNDER, H. N., and MACDONALD, K. A. June 22, 1936, No. 17346. [Class 64 (i)] A pipe 3 opening into the lower part of a hot-water storage chamber 1 has a flexible extension 7 terminating in a two or three-way cock 8 which is provided with a cup 9 having a resilient rim for detachably securing the cock to the spout of a tap. The cock may be turned to allow (1) tap water to discharge directly through the cock, (2) tap water to flow through the pipe 3 into the storage chamber, and (3) hot storage water to flow through the pipe 3 and discharge through the cock. The chamber may be discharged directly through a spout 22 by opening a valve 5 in the pipe 3. In a modification, the chamber is filled with water and hot water is discharged from the upper end of the chamber through a separate pipe when cold tap water is admitted at the lower end. The sides of a chamber may taper to give a greater thickness of insulation material around the upper part than around the lower part.
