Abstract

460,529. Valves. HUTCHISON, A., and SHEARDOWN, J. W. July 31, 1935, No. 21764. [Class 135] A valve device having a chamber adapted to receive supplies of hot and cold water and direct the flow either to a spout or delivery device leading to a bath, wash-hand basin or the like or to a branch leading to a shower or other pipe, has the valve member carried by a push rod freely slidable in a bearing located entirely within the delivery device or spout. In the form shown in the Figure the valve member comprises a thick indiarubber washer 8 clamped between a pair of washers against a shoulder on the rod 6, and co-operates with a pair of opposed conical seats 10, 9, one formed integrally with the valve casing, the other in the spigot end of a detachable spout 4. The bearing 5 for the rod is shown formed integrally with the spout and is fitted with a leakage discharge tube 18 but it may be formed as a separate piece supported at its inner end by a spider. The valve member may have two washers arranged to co-operate with seats of different diameters. The branch 12 may be formed as a separate piece and separate seats of material not affected by the sulphur in the rubber washer such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite " may be screwed into place or provided with a securing flange clamped between two parts.
