Abstract
In the production of aluminium from alumina, the alumina is converted into aluminium nitride by heating it in nitrogen with low temperature carbonization coke, and the nitride is heated with similar coke to convert it into carbide which in turn is decomposed into aluminium and carbon by heating it to over 1400 DEG C.ALSO:In the production of aluminium from alumina, the alumina is converted into aluminium nitride by heating it in nitrogen with low temperature carbonization coke, and the nitride is heated with similar coke to convert it into carbide which in turn is decomposed into aluminium and carbon by heating it to over 1400 DEG C. The aluminium may be distilled off at about 1800 DEG C.
