Abstract
481,903. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 21, 1936, No. 25633. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] A short-wave transmitting aerial, radiating uniformly in the horizontal plane, comprises two " crossed " transmission wires 19 and 21, Fig. 1, arranged vertically. Each carries a series of transverse radiators 29, which are energized in phase-quadrature, the desired phase-adjustment being ensured by a quarterwave coupling 15 between the two transmission lines, and the common high-frequency source 1. Fig. 3 shows how the two series of antennae are mounted on a common mast 41. The antennµ are shown at 45, but only one, 47, of the four leads forming the two feeders. These are " crossed " over standoff insulators 49. The antennµ are spaced vertically by a half wavelength, the length of each section of feed-line being slightly longer. The efficiency of the arrangement is stated to be higher than a vertical halfwave aerial, or than a series of half-wave sections separated by " suppressed " halfwave sections, and is economical to instal.
