Abstract
414,296. Aerials; directive wireless signalling. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL, 79, Boulevard Haussmann, Paris. Jan. 10, 1934, Nos. 960 and 961. Convention dates, Jan. 11, 1933 and Nov. 13, 1933. [Class 40 (v).] To reduce losses in the feed-line 1, 2, Fig. 2, to a short-wave aerial 3 mounted at a considerable height above the ground, a conductor 6, which may be shaped as a disc or square, or as a series of radiating wires, is mounted at the foot of the aerial and connected to one of the feed-lines. The distribution of the currents on the aerial and disc is then as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2<a>, and feed-line losses are reduced. As shown in Fig. 4, the disc 6 may be rotatable and may carry a reflector 7 to enhance the directional effect. In a modified arrangement (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) a series of aerials and loss-preventors are arranged at half-wave intervals along the feed-line, successive aerials being connected to opposite sides of the supply. In Fig. 7, the aerial 3 is enclosed in a rigid insulating sleeve 4 to prevent vibration.
