Abstract

499,602. Aerials. CORK, E. C., and PAWSEY, J. L. July 27, 1937, No. 20737. [Class 40 (v)] To protect a receiving aerial from interfering currents flowing in its supporting mast, or in any adjacent conductor of large crosssection relative to the wavelength, one or more rings of quarter-wave elements are attached at suitable intervals, preferably a quarter wavelength, along the mast. They may consist of half-wave rods centrally connected to the structure, and act as artificial earths or attenuators for undesired currents, as described in Specifications 438,506 and 490,489. In Fig. 1 (Comp.), the attenuator rings are shown at 20. 20<1> and 21, each forming what is termed a lowimpedance "skirt.'' The receiving dipole is not shown in this Figure. Similar attenuators 2, Fig. 1 (Prov.), may be arranged as a cylinder surrounding the top' of the mast 1 on the receiving dipole 6 is mounted.
