Abstract
370,247. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Lindenblad, N. E.; Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) June 1, 1931, No. 15991. Convention date, June 23, 1930. [Class 40 (v).] An aerial array is constructed so that sleetmelting current can be applied without impairing the directive characteristic of the radiated field. As shown in Fig. 3, the feed wires F supplying an aerial A and its associated reflector R terminate in Y-shaped members N, the radiation from which is balanced by similar members N at the far end. The radiation circuit is closed by a quarter-wavelength loop L in which the high-frequency currents are in phase opposition ; since the loop has substantially infinite impedance, the aerial is practically open-circuited for radio-frequency currents and may be grounded at the nodal point 14. Sleet-melting current is supplied from a source 16 through chokes 18. Fig. 4 shows a preferred modification in which sleet-melting current is supplied to the entire system, including the neutralizing members, corresponding to those marked N in Fig. 3. Radio-frequency energy is supplied through leads 22, 24, and heating- current at nodal points 12 through leads 20 and chokes 18. The feed wires are parallelled and bent at each end, as shown, to prevent radiation. In another modification, Fig. 6, each radiator 2 comprises two conductors 21, 41 which by virtue of the shunt condensers 84 are effectively in parallel across the highfrequency supply T, but are in series through the bridging wire 101 to the heating-currents supplied across a condenser 88 from a source 96. Specification 308,664, [Class 40 (v), Wireless signalling &c.], is referred to.
